Lifestyle

As the Dalai Lama said, "The purpose of our lives is to be happy.”

And in today's world, how we live our life is a primary factor in helping us achieve that. Remember! it is never too late to begin.

"A lifestyle change begins with a vision and a single step". - Jeff Calloway

If you have the vision then I will show you the steps.

So go ahead and take the first step right now.

Food

The food you eat can either be

the safest and most powerful

form of medicine ....

or

the slowest form of poison ....

- Ann Wigmore

And remember,

The doctor of the future will no longer

treat the human frame with drugs,

but rather will cure and prevent diseases

with nutrition.

- Thomas Edison

Wellness

Wellness is considered a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving

full potential. It is multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle,

mental and spiritual well-being,

and the environment.

Wellness begins where the mind, body and soul intersect.

The physical body is just a reflection of the health of the mind and soul.

One cannot see the benefits of true health

unless all three are in balance.

The three best times to eat carbs

The three best times to eat carbs

March 12, 20193 min read

Don’t we all want to be able to eat carbs and never store them as fat? So how can we try to outsmart our bodies? By eating carbs at times when our body is using up the carbs very efficiently without storing them.

So the three best time to eat carbs are:

1) In the mornings

This is the time when our body’s capacity to burn anything is very high due to a high metabolic rate and very good insulin sensitivity. This metabolic rate goes down as the day progresses especially after 3 pm and the body becomes sluggish.

Breakfast

2) A few hours before your daily exercise or workout

This could be any time in the day, but just before the workout or exercise or brisk walking or whatever form of exercise you do.

It will provide energy for your upcoming workout, as a result, your workouts will be better and you will end up burning more during your workouts.

Along with good energy levels for your workout, it will also prevent muscle loss which can happen if there aren’t enough carbs in the body to provide for energy. The more the muscle, the more the fat burning capacity of your body.

It also prevents the carbs from spilling over and storing as fat because you are using them as an energy source for your workouts and they replenish the depleted carbohydrate stores (glycogen) of the body, from the workout.

3) Post-workout

This might be the best time to eat your carbs guilt-free as all that you eat gets absorbed by the muscle which is completely depleted of glucose after the workout. The depleted stores in the liver also get filled up.

A workout could mean anything starting from a brisk walk, light jog, aerobics to strength training, and HIIT.

Workout

The insulin sensitivity is also very good and the cells, in general, take up glucose better. So there is no chance of storage as fat. But quality carbs should be taken after workouts instead of refined carbs and should be combined with a quality protein or protein powder with minimal fats.

Again the workout could be any time of the day. If you do plan to have a heavy dinner or eat out, it would be a great strategy to plan your workout a few hours before your dinner. That way you can eat guilt-free without storing your food as fat.

Stretching

It is never a good idea to completely remove carbs from your diet as they are essential to your health and well-being. It is the most important source of fuel for the body and its deficiency can do a great deal of damage to the body in the long run.

Also, build an awareness of your body's needs. As the body always gives you a signal when it hasn't got enough of something that it needs. Do not blindly follow a diet or meal plan.Learn to recognize the signs and symptoms and you will then be able to eat as per the needs of the body.
